Justice and Corrections Support:  With support from the Group of Friends of Corrections in Peace Operations, a training curriculum on Gender-Responsive Prison Management was developed in 2016 and piloted in Liberia and Kenya in 2017, targeting both peace operations’ corrections personnel as well as national prison staff, with the aim of strengthening gender-responsive prison management, including to reduce abuse of and violence against women in prisons.

UNRWA has made regular submissions to the Report of the UN Secretary-General on the Situation of and Assistance to Palestinian Women in the occupied Palestinian territory; SG Report pursuant to General Assembly resolution 70/138 entitled “The girl child”; reporting on the UN Systems-Wide Action plan on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women(UN-SWAP); and submissions to the International Human Rights System including the relevant treaty bodies and Special Rapporteurs.

In line with commitments made to the global Call to Action on Protection from GBV in Emergencies (Call to Action), IOM has started the development of its first institutional framework in GBV in Crises (GBViC). The framework will articulate IOM’s approach to GBV in crises, define the scope IOM’s GBV response, and help IOM missions to operationalize commitments to protect populations crisis-affected populations from GBV.

1. The 16 days of Activism to end gender-based violence was organised by WFP from 25 November to 10 December 2017 with an active participation at HQ, Regional Bureaux, Country, Field and Liaison Offices.

UNRWA participates in the different cluster meetings in its fields of operation, and also inter-Agency working groups. UNRWA also grounds its work on raising awareness of the UN Secretary General's UniTE Campaign, such as the Agency's participation the 16 Days of Activism against GBV. 

UNRWA is a part of the Call to Action on Protection from GBV in Emergencies, and prioritize the implementation of its commitments as part of the Building Safety project on GBV in emergencies. 
 

Feb 2017 - Apr 2018 | IOM

IOM continues to host a Training Specialist from the IASC GBV Guidelines Implementation Support Team. The Specialist has, among other things, co-facilitated GBV Guidelines Rollout Trainings in Guatemala and El Salvador, and helped develop guidance for non-GBV specialists on how to respond supportively to a GBV disclosure in field locations where no direct GBV services are available.

DPKO is  one of the members in the UN ACTION and contributed to supporting the ongoing initiative to implement a  Scoping Study on the Causes and Consequences of sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) from a Gender Perspective

Mandated by a UN Security Council resolution, UNODC has developed a “Thematic paper on countering trafficking in persons in conflict situations” (to be published in the first half of 2018). In this context, it organized an expert group meeting at its headquarters in Vienna on 20 and 21 September 2017.

UNREC organized a train-the-trainers inter-institutional course on small arms control as part of a capacity-building project for Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria. Module 1, entitled “Human Security, Human Rights, Proliferation of SALW and Armed Violence”, addresses violence against women and girls.
