UNAIDS and Department of Peace Keeping Operations are developing a toolkit related to “Shining the light on ending violence against women” in (post-) conflict settings.
In celebration of the International Day of Peace, UNREC, the regional centre of UNODA for Africa, participated in training sessions for young women in Togo on “Citizenship education of young women, guaranteeing a fairer society”, which also addressed the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and the need for increased representation of women at all levels of decision-making, especially in the prevention, management, and peaceful settlement of conflicts.

OHCHR supported fact-finding missions and Commissions of Inquiry which, inter alia, look into violence against women including sexual violence in Mali, and Central African Republic. In October 2013, OHCHR, in collaboration with UN WOMEN, organised a meeting to review efforts to strengthen expertise of Commissions of Inquiry and Fact-Finding Missions in the area of sexual and gender-based violence.

Social Norms and Community-based Care Programming in Humanitarian Settings: Building ‘Good Practice’ Approaches for Response to and Primary Prevention of Sexual Violence against Women and Girls Affected by Conflict is a three-year project by UNICEF, underway in Somalia and South Sudan. It focuses on building community-level prevention and response strategies to promote behaviour change towards greater respect for women and girls, and to prevent sexual violence as an inevitable and acceptable part of war. A key component of the project is rigorous research, conducted in partnership with Johns Hopkins University, which will document the impact of the programme.
UN agencies, including UN Women and UNFPA, supported Governments, including those of Nepal and the Pacific Islands, to prepare their national priorities for negotiations during CSW 57. UN Women also promoted the implementation of the CSW Agreed Conclusions in Fiji through the national EVAW Task Force. UN agencies, including UN Women and UNFPA, supported Governments, including those of Nepal and the Pacific Islands, to prepare their national priorities for negotiations during CSW 57. UN Women also promoted the implementation of the CSW Agreed Conclusions in Fiji through the national EVAW Task Force. In preparation for the 57th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), ESCAP and UN Women jointly organized the “Asia-Pacific Regional Preparatory Meeting for the 57th session of the Commission on the Status of Women”, 5-6 February 2013, in which senior-level representatives from 12 ESCAP Member States participated. The outcome of the meeting included recommendations on translating existing international legal and normative frameworks into effective national policy tools that address the obstacles and challenges in eliminating and preventing violence against women and girls in Asia and the Pacific.
UNICEF is leading in the development of tools for violence against women and girls in emergencies, including the revision of the IASC GBV Guidelines and the GBV Coordination Handbook. In 2014-2015, UNICEF will roll out the Guidelines and promote adherence at headquarters, regional and country levels, within UNICEF programmes and by partners.

It continued to roll-out its global strategy “Action against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence: An Updated Strategy” and assisted individual country operations to develop country-level strategies in 2013.
