Measures

1. Secretary-General’s Campaign “UNiTE to End Violence against Women, 2008-2015” (UNiTE Campaign)

• From 25 November to 10 December included WFP, globally conducted the 16 Days of Activism to end GBV. WFP’s call to action was “Orange the world – support gender-based violence survivors”. WFP mobilized colleagues and partners to stand in solidarity with GBV survivors and survivor advocates under UNiTE’s global banner Orange the World: #HearMeToo and to learn and reflect on the lives of GBV survivors, and the connection with WFP’s Zero Hunger mission.

   

• In Cuba Country Office, both as part of the Inter-agency Gender Group or individually, WFP supported various sensitization workshops and events in the framework of the Secretary-General’s Campaign “UNiTE to End Violence against Women” (UNiTE Campaign). Additionally, the Inter-agency Gender Group promoted a systematization of the inter-agency experiences in Cuba (results and lessons learned) to inform the UNiTE strategy for the coming years

3. United Nations Action against Sexual Violence in Conflict (UN ACTION)

WFP has three dedicated staff at the global level covering protection (including prevention and response to GBV). Furthermore, GBV is a part of the annual work plans of two members of the Gender Office, who work on the Orange Days and annual 16 Days of Activism Campaign.

5. Inter-Agency Standing Committee: Sub-Working Group on Gender and Humanitarian Action (IASC)

WFP has actively contributed to and benefited from its engagement in a number of inter-agency initiatives on gender equality and GBV as well as broader interagency engagement on protection.

WFP has a particular interest in continued engagement with the IASC Gender Reference Group and the Gender-based Violence AOR. WFP has also maintained an active presence in the IASC PSEA/AAP task team, the Global Call to Action on Protection from GBV in Emergencies, the Global Protection Cluster, the IASC GenCap Steering Committee and the Secretary General’s initiative on Human Rights Up Front. Members of the Gender Office represent WFP in IASC GRG, and the Gender Office serves as Co-Chair of the IASC GenCAP Steering Committee.

Cairo Regional Bureau (RBC)

RBC gender hosted a session in collaboration with UN Women on The Costs of GBV in November 2018. The session discussed: Costs of GBV; Gender Status Update from the Arab States (Gaps and Opportunities); Gender and SDGs (Zero Hunger); HerStory Zero Hunger: WFP and UN Women collaboration

Dakar Regional Bureau (RBD)

• The 16 Days of Activism program included a film and drama on GBV followed by discussions and an official statement of the management representative (Deputy Regional Director).
• The Campaign will be closed by an Orange walk which will bring together all UN Agencies member of the Regional Gender working group, on December 08th.
• Screening of the film "Victim of My Sex", directed by Unifem. It gives voice to victims and presents several aspects of GBV in four West African countries. Discussions focused on the need to change cultural norms, the need for victims' access to services, the need for a favourable legal and political environment.

Ecuador Country Office

• WFP as part of the Gender international Development Network (MEGECI) coordinates efforts and supports the government specially in end violence against women and girls. UNiTE campaign is part of the efforts.
• Moreover, the Country Office as part of the Gender Interagency group actively contributes to a UN Institutional model free of Violence against women and sexual harassment.

El Salvador Country Office
